The Backstory
Orthopaedic waiting lists, already a concern before the pandemic, have seen a significant impact due to Covid-19, with very few operations taking place. By 2021, orthopaedics faced the highest total number of patients waiting, including a substantial number waiting for more than a year, causing widespread suffering among patients of all ages.
In an effort to reduce NHS wait times, a plan was approved to build four dedicated orthopaedic operating theatres and their associated ward facilities at Maidstone Hospital in Kent.
What they needed
We were approached by offsite modular building experts, Premiere Modular, to handle all of the electric installation for this project.
Known as the ‘Barn Project,’ it encompassed four new theatres exclusively for orthopaedic elective procedures along with a 20-bed inpatient ward and a 16-bed day case ward, providing dedicated capacity separate from emergency services.
What we did for them
We took on the construction of the project’s infrastructure. This encompassed several key components including the installation of primary and secondary containments throughout the site.
Additionally, we performed a comprehensive electrical installation, followed by thorough testing to ensure its functionality and safety.
